The Family came from Scarborough in North Yorkshire. On our side of the Family, my Dad was in the Regular Army, and served as R.Q.M.S., with the 9th Coast Regiment Royal Artillery. I have one Sister and Dad was taken as a POW with the Japanese at the fall of Singapore and worked on the Railway of Death for three and a half years. His brother Herbert , served as a Sergeant with the Green Howards and was killed at Dunkirk in 1940, he was to leave Alfie and Eileenand a wife Lilly. Their sister Elsie worked in and around Scarborough in the Hotel trade. My Mother moved us around the country in order to support us, especially after we were bombed out twice in the early years of the War. My interest in the War is concerned with gathering more information where possible about the Family in general, the effect upon Scarborough and the events around Singapore and the Railway of Death, including trying to trace anybody who is still alive, who may remember my Father who was known as "Pop" Nellis, due to his being one of the older members of the Forces.
