Here are the war time memories of my late Uncle Bill, who was in the navy. In 1990 he dictated them and I typed them up.
They include his experience at Tobruk, the bombing of the Sikh, meeting Rommel and prisoner of war in Italy. He was exchanged, (prisoner exchange), and then redeployed in the Pacific.
He never married, but was much loved by his ten nephews and nieces. He would often have us chidren giggling at his silly ideas or the naughtiness of his puppet monkey, Tobia. The disapproving looks of his mother, our Nanna, or his big sister didn't make either him or his monkey behave better.
