Hi to everyone that takes their time to read this!
A few words just to let you know why I'm here...
My Fathers name was Kenneth Lambert Dudley, born 9th September 1922, unfortunately passed away 18th December 1992.
Like most children, I asked very few questions about my Dads service and never retained much information when he did talk about it. I know he was in the Merchant Navy, and think he was in The Royal Warwickshire Regiment. I've based this regiment on a picture I found since his death showing a cap badge which can just be made out! This picture, which I'll try and include somewhere within my personal page, is very special to me as it shows my Dad as I've never seen him before, without facial injury. Around my Dads 21st birthday the ship he was on got torpedoed, he was in the boiler room and suffered horrific burns and bone damage to his face. He was always VERY self conscious about this and would always try to hide his face whenever he took his false teeth out. Basically the one side of his face/jaw area would collapse leaving a sunken area where there shouldn't be one. It never scared me, as he thought it might cause at the end of the day he was my Dad and I loved him VERY much and now miss him terribly.
I want to find out as much as I can about my Dads service as a mark of respect to him for what he must have gone through and to try and make the pain I feel for not talking to him when I had the chance go away.
