My name is Iris White and I am now nearly 85 years of age. At the beginning of the war I lived with my parents, William and Hilda White, in Park Road in Sittingbourne. My father had a gentlemen's outfitters shop in Sittingbourne High Street. During the war I went with my friends to many dances in the local villages. I met my future husband, Ernie White (same surname as me!) a soldier from the Dorset regiment, who was stationed at Torry Hill at the time. Ernie was captured in North Africa and was a POW for some time. We are still married and living in Sittingbourne.
