As the result of an accident which meant I had to change my lifestyle, I came up with the idea of taking stories from all the ladies in Barnard Castle and area who had done their bit during WW2. The idea grew 'like 'Topsy' with one lady suggesting another and I now have over thirty contributions. Hopefully a book will be printed and I am also including all the stories here for posterity. It seemed appropriate to do this when it is the 60th anniversary of the end of the War and the monumnet dedicated to women has been erected in Whithall. This is my memorial to these ladies, who have led fairly quiet lives in our area since, but certainly played their part to help the War effort.
