I was born on the 8th of February 1934, at University Hospital, Gower Street London.
George V was on the throne. at that period of time there was a great deal of unemployment. My father and mother worked as waiter and waitress, in many big hotels in London. we lived in Camden town. My father got a job as a waiter in Switzerland in St. Moritz. Mother carried on her waitress job in London.
Father was a great sportsman, playing football, cricket, hockey and skiing.
In January 1936 George V died so did my father. I was three at the time, so I did not know my father. For a time my mother and I lived with her sister in Edmonton in Hertford Road.
Then we moved to Brighton in Sussex. It was August 1939.
The Beginning of WW2!! Mum and lived in an area called Milton Place sadly this mews type place is no longer there now, It would be part of the Churchill shopping centre now. I remember walking along the seafront there and seeing the sea defences being put in place, with barbed wire, mines ,pillboxes and they blew a great gap in the Palace Pier!! Also in Brighton there were many French soldiers. My mother made a French Tricolor flag and asked the troops there to sign it, at first they would not, but later they did sign it.
