Hello,
My name is Andy Bellwood and my Father,J.J.G Bellwood, served with the Glider Pilot Regiment during WW2.
When my Dad died a few years ago,I decided to do all I could to learn more about this elite and unique regiment, one of the smallest and shortest lived in military history. It is also my aim to make more people aware of the regiment and the aircraft themselves,(the look on people's faces when they're told about the tank-carrying Hamilcar glider is priceless!).
I have a small but constantly growing collection of items related to my Dad's old regiment which I hope one day to be able to show publically to youth groups such as cadet units. It's important to teach the younger generation about the debt of gratitude owed to some of those who gave their all.
Recently I joined the Glider Pilot Regimental Association, being accepted was a great honour and I will carry my membership with pride.
I have just started a small "friendship" group for the relatives of Glider Pilots and glideborne troops and I sincerely hope that any relatives who might be reading this will consider joining. The address of the site is:
