William Leslie Keable was my grandfather he was with the 11th Field Regt Royal Artillery and his service number was 1066462. He was born on the 25th November 1907 and died at Monte Cassino on February 12th 1944. He is buried in the Commonwealth Cemetry there. He left a wife Edith and two daughters Sylvia and Janet (my mother)who lived in Saul in Gloucestershire.

This much we know...he was a career soldier and was evacuated from Europe in the wake of the German advance. He later fought through N. Africa/Egypt (hospitalised there for some time) before the invasion of Sicily and the Italian mainland.

I have embarked upon the search for his wartime experiences and in particular at the battle for Monte Cassino through the historical records in Glasgow and through a number of publications on the Cassino battles. Clearly I would love to hear from anyone with specific information either regarding his unit or more miraculously him personally. Please contact me if you can assist in any way.
