I was 4yrs old during the May Blitz.I can remember quite clearly the ritual each night.Iwas wakened up and dressed in my siren suit and carried downstairs complete with my Mickey Mouse gasmask. My brother and I would lay on a made up bed in the store under the stairs. With us were Mam and the lady from next door. Dad would sometimes be with us and sometimes he would be on Home Guard duty. Our cat used to jump in the dolly tub under the kitchen table whenever he heard the siren. After one very bad night everyone was told to go to a meeting in a local hall.Mam was told that all school children were being evacuated. She said we were all staying together and took us to stay with my Auntie and Uncle in Ainsdale, which although only a few miles away was safe from bombs.Dad worked on the docks so he had to stay in Bootle.Mam came home every Tuesday to see him. After every bombing raid houses would be missing from terraces in many roads
