I am retired from the Police Service and one of my hobbies is Family History. I am particularly interested in the Military aspects having been in the army myself.
The main focus of my research for the past 4 years has been the 2nd.Bn. Irish Guards and the Guards Armoured Division in WW2. This arises from the following family connection:
My mother's brother was Robert Charles RICHES, born and brought up in Gorleston-on-sea, Norfolk. He enlisted on 5th.June 1939 into the Irish Guards. service number 2719097. He was killed in action near St.Martin des Besaces, Normandy, on 1st.August 1944 during a tank action in the Bocage.
I have a considerable library focussed on the the invasion and its aftermath and this includes some rare and specialised volumes about the Guards Armoured Division. I should be interested to make contact with anyone else with similar interests or to assist with enquiries.
