My father - Ernest Wright - died in 1956 when I was 5 years old. I can remember my mother telling me this story which I have subsequently been able to verify after finding a newspaper cutting from an RAF PR Officer who had visited the crew in their Calcutta hospital. My father was a 20 year-old rear gunner in the Wellington bomber - surviving the crash when his rear turret broke away on impact. He served in India, Italy and then returned to the UK for the latter part of the war. He was born in Newnham in the Forest of Dean and later moved to Cheltenham when he married. I would love to hear from anyone who may have served with him. David Wright
