The Tipping Point by Sarah-Jane Dickenson

The Tipping Point: a play by Hull Truck

Digital drama

Schools in Hull are piloting an innovative teaching and theatre initiative to share best practices and improve learning in the city.

The pioneering scheme allows schools to broadcast lessons over the internet using state of the art digital technology.

Eight schools in Hull will be piloting the new system, which includes video and recording equipment with streaming technology.

The scheme enables teachers to teach more than one class at a time and at different schools.

鈥淭his system will help to raise standards in English and maths, which we know are weak areas within the city of Hull.鈥 said Ken Ruff, assistant head-teacher at Kingswood College of Arts.

鈥淲e will no longer have to send our students out of school to access teaching resources for vocational courses such as motor engineering, because the motor engineering teachers can teach through a system like this and our students can stay in their comfort zone.鈥

The project, which cost over 拢430,000, is funded by One Hull and is supported by Hull Truck through its Theatre In Education (TIE) programme for students.

The Truck has commissioned a specific play for the project which is touring schools across the city, with the first series of performances running at Kingswood school.

Titled听鈥楾he Tipping Point鈥 and written by Sarah-Jane Dickenson lecturer at the University of Hull, the play addresses the issues of citizenship and immigration, centred on a young Romanian girl and her family.
