The Old Parcels Office at the Bridlington railway station was derelict until 1998 when the mental health charity, MIND, transformed the space into a community arts centre. The centre was recently refurbished at a cost of 拢250,000 to make way for a new art space which will hold workshops, residencies and exhibitions. Some of the Parcel Office鈥檚 original features still remain including fireplaces, doors, windows and the tiling in the Gentlemen鈥檚 toilets, which is now a storage room. ![]() Francis Kelly, arts development officer 鈥淭he location is central, it鈥檚 easily accessible and it鈥檚 also a very charming building.鈥 said Francis Kelly, arts development officer. 鈥淲hen I first started here, the room itself was derelict but it had a very nice atmosphere. It was already a place that had a community feel to it. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 developed over the years. The Community Rail Partnership has done a lot of work in making the station even more attractive and pleasant to be in. 鈥淲e feel that we've also added value to the station by being somewhere that people can come for fun, enjoyment and creativity; to have social opportunities, to create art and learn new skills."
