Walking with Wilberforce

Take a walk through the historic heart of Hull.

The newly opened Walking with Wilberforce trail takes people through the area associated with William Wilberforce and the other 18th century abolitionists.

It focuses on the Old Town area of the Hull, which 200 years ago was the centre of the city. It was home to the warehouses adjoining the river and the merchants' mansions; including Wilberforce鈥檚 own home.

The tour takes in the Market Place, Holy Trinity Church and the Old Grammar School where William Wilberforce was educated.

Plaques affixed to walls on the trail tell the stories of other prominent abolitionists of the period, who worked with Wilberforce to end the slave trade.

The tour is self-guided by buying a trail guide from the local tourist office.
