ADMIRAL LORD COLLINGWOOD

Collingwood Monument

The Collingwood Monument

The most famous celebration of Collingwood is the Monument in Tynemouth. The statue was originally proposed for the city's Town Moor but many felt it deserved a coastal location. It was finally constructed in 1845, and two years later four 32 pound cannons from the Royal Sovereign were added. Today Collingwood gazes out to sea atop a classical pedestal designed by John Dobson.
