Out asked two of the young people from St Basil's in Birmingham to tell us about
how they spend a typical week. Darrell Parkes and Cassandra D Richards talk
about their hopes for the future. They also explain how they are positively
turning their lives around. These are their web diaries... Darrell
Parkes tells it as it is: "A typical
day for me is... trying to bring my best ideas to life. "I
have always been a creative person, and I know that's not a new thing with 'young
people' today. "But to me, it's all about being an individual and working
with people as passionate as myself. "Yes, I make music and perform,
but I understand the importance of linking all aspects of media and how everything
greatly relies on IT. "So as well a developing myself as a performance
artist, I attend business seminars to network with other organisations to get
business advice. "I'm currently studying a minimum of an
hour and a half a day, on a web management course, while recording a compilation
album for my own independent recording label. "I am also writing a
screen play whilst looking for a part time job (you know, monster fish 4u, all
them ones). "I mean, when you look at all this on paper, it's deep
innit? "I mean when they say 'you're thinking too big, be realistic',
I look at my bills, and hear the wise words of good old Jeremy Kyle saying, "why
don't you get off your backside and get a job", it doesn't sound wrong. "But...
as soon as I turn on my sub at full blizzy (that's 'blast', for all urbanly challenged
readers), I forget all the negativity surrounding what I'm trying to do. "And
after about 35, 45 minutes of high volume music (which would exceed the average
music listeners comfort zone) I get busy, I promise. "It's almost
like, a typical day to me is trying to prove a point, but looking back on everything
I've done, and plan to do, can you blame me?" Cassandra D Richards

D Richards here! "My typical week usually consists of: "Trying
to do the best in everything I do, like my image because I have my own style.
"I have completed an NVQ2 in beauty and even though I wish to pursue
a career in drama, I wouldn't mind being involved in makeup behind the scenes
also. "I love music, like a lot of people, but I listen to what I
listen to for my own reasons. "I also like reading interesting books,
especially scary ones. I am actually involved in writing a screenplay at the moment.
"I like chilling' out on most days, watching DVDs, creating ideas
for music, making films, and working on various other media ideas with my team.
"I have already made a short five minute film with Inside Out for
the 大象传媒, and plan to make a career out of it, as I had so much fun working on
the project. "So all you film makers interested after seeing my film,
give me a shout. "I'm not working at the moment, but hey, it's not
the end of the world, if you're currently unemployed. Feel me on that one. "I
like deep conversation on most days and real people who believe in things like
living life with a cause for being here." |
