Hi,
i have been a veteran leisure traveller to jersey almost every year since 1983! whereas i could see the need to reduce tourism at that time, i now sadly see an island which no longer offers anything really in terms of a summer holiday? examples being considerable closure of hotels, car hire companies, and entertainment venues etc! i mean with a holiday here in the summer which has prices on par with the caribbean, without the weather! someone please tell me what is on offer for the money in 2007? nightlife is now practically non existent for any age group alone! Do'nt get me wrong i am an avid jersey lover, but have seen so much demise in 23 years that i would now only ever consider coming for a weekend out of season! very sad in my opinion.

When considering political and social objectives, how deeply do we consider what it is we hope to achieve? The sponsoring or the original thought to a particular objective is a very powerful statement of the mind. For instance if you consider the economic security of the Island being the most important objective, then your sponsoring thought which underpins your thinking will take little account of any other criteria while progressing your objective. This could mean putting your eggs in one basket for the economy as an example or paying little regard to the socioeconomic consequences of the policy. Short-term fine, long term could be problematic. Therefore setting the original intention is profoundly important. Misunderstanding the subtleties of the human mind leaves one at an enormous disadvantage but the understanding of which could pay huge dividends.

My wife and I visited Jersey for the first time in September and enjoyed it very much. However the cost of getting there is expensive. I was quoted 拢104 return each to walk on the Condor ferry from Poole which is exorbitant. Fortunately after a great deal of trouble we managed to travel for 拢60 return with car by doing a deal with a hotel. This turned out to be the best option in the end but took over an hour in the travel agency to complete deal.

We are about to make our 4th visit to Jersey (holiday) as we love it very much, but - what has happened to all the flowers, the pubs and public buildings used to be beautiful, ie St Lawrence church and parish hall etc, now there seems little effort in a lot of places, also the restaurants are inflexible when serving food, a lot of them stopping serving early in the evening.
Everything has become so expensive, when we used to come to Jersey in the 70's the the drinks, perfume and petrol/car hire were affordable now there is no appreciable difference. I could go on and on, but it will not stop us coming to visit or encouraging others to visit.

Metamorphosis is the key word here, as is evolution.
Affordable quality, capitalising on our natural attributes, heritage and cuisine.
Futhermore, we need to attract younger visitors and offer them attractive entertainment venues - Caeser's Palace and the Lido De France no longer exist - can they be substituted? Fort Regent needs to be brought back to its glory days!
How about adventure tourism?,i.e. getting holidaymakers to abseil, paraglide, dive and mountainbike the island's most exciting locations.
Many say that Jersey has nothing to offer the tourist - this is only true if the States cannot get their thinking cap on and capitalise on what the island already has and then add to this.
Many outsiders who feel that Jersey is too small often forget that islanders compensate for this via their sense of imagination, industry and creativity. It's a good job that 大象传媒 Jersey are using this forum to hold this debate - come on, folks, get your thinking caps and send in your emails. Let's all hope that the best ones get sent to the States for a committee to work upon them!

There are many people out there who love Jersey because of the way it is, and has always been. It just needs advertising to the right target audience. My advice would be to stick to what Jersey has always offered and target this better. Do not bring the quality of the island down in the chase for a few more bookings. It doesnt work.

Jersey is such a beautiful place it is a shame that the tourism industry is declining. The airport have got to REDUCE their landing fees - once flights are cheap so many more people will come and visit.
