Wave Junior Muratti Jersey 1 鈥 0 Guernsey High winds caused problems for both sides at this weekend鈥檚 Junior Muratti in Guernsey, and a single goal in the eighty-fifth minute of play from Jersey鈥檚 Craig Russell was enough to secure the match for our side. Guernsey had plenty of chances to score throughout the match but failed to challenge the Jersey keeper, leaving the match goalless for the majority of the play. A half-volley from Russell saw the ball pass Guernsey goalie Andrew Rigsden following a scramble at the goalmouth to crown the Jersey Under-18 side as winners of the 2006 Junior Muratti. Jersey鈥檚 captain Joel Speight was awarded man of the match and was understandably delighted at the result for his team; 鈥淚t was a battle and we鈥檝e come out the better鈥 he stated. The first half of the match saw Guernsey make several opportunities to score a goal but the Sarninas failed to capitalise on their chances. As Speight pointed out, despite Jersey not creating as many chances as their opponents, 鈥渁ll that matters is that you put it in the back of the net鈥, and this weekend it was Jersey who managed to do just that. |
