Jersey is celebration the 61st anniversary of the islands liberation from German occupation.

States Members held a special sitting to commemorate Liberation Day that included a speech from Constable John Germain.

Constable John Germain is the longest serving constable in the house and used his speech to reminded members of the privileges that were lost during the war.

The Bailiff Sir Philip Bailhache welcomed the Spanish Ambassador to the assembly and said that he thinks Jersey should continue to commerorate Liberation Day "for ever".

For the first time he's attending a slave workers ceremony at Westmount crematorium.

He'll be laying a wreath in memory of the Spanish men and women forced into labour during the Occupation.
