Battle of Flowers

Battle of Flowers 2006

St. Clement won the top award at the Battle of Flowers with their native Indian themed float. Last year's winners, the Optimists Club, had to settle for second place.

Battle of Flowers 2006

The Parish of St. Clement was awarded the top prize, the Prix d’Honneur, at this year’s Battle of Flowers whilst the Optimists Club (last year’s winners) picked up second place, the Prix d’Excellence.

Despite some confusion over the results and the controversy surrounding the decision to pay for Andy Abraham and Jodie Marsh to appear at the festival, the general consensus from spectators was that the Grand Parade was a resounding success, with some believing it to be the best afternoon parade the battle has seen for some years.

St. Clement, whose native Indian inspired float ‘Pow Wow’ was awarded first place overall, but, as it didn’t win it’s class there was confusion over whether it could take the highest award.

However it was soon discovered that the uncertainty was caused by a mistake made by the judges, and that it was not Trinity who had won the Parish class, but St. Clement, Trinity had in fact come second and Grouville third.

Peter Heath & Friends won the top award for floats made with paper flowers with their Space themed ‘Reach for the Stars’.

The Parish of St. Brelade was selected to win the Carnival Atmosphere award, whilst both the Most Humourous Exhibit and Best Animation went to the Young Farmers Club with their ‘Wacky Races’ float.

Moonlight Winners

The Optimists Club have taken the Best Illuminated, Over 25 feet, award in the Moonlight Parade for 'Off the Rails'.

The best illuminated under 25 feet award went to St. Lawrence Juniors for Once Upon a Time and the Best Carnival Atmosphere went to the Optimists.

Jodie Marsh and Andy Abraham were much better received during the Moonlight Parade and both of them regularly left their car to join in with dancers around the floats.

Take a look at a wide selection of photos from both the day and moonlight parades at the 2006 Battle of Flowers:

those comments are a load of rubbish. do you av anythin to do wiv the battle apart from watch it? cos if u dont u aint got a clue what the atmosphere is like in the build up to it or the pty afterwards.

Unfortunately I agree with the Mr.Richards, the best days of the battle are long gone - why not have it every three years - and try to make it special?

Dave Richards
I have loved the battle for 30+ years, but I have to say that it is becoming a bit outdated. Jersey needs to move forward and stop looking back. The battle has been suffering for a number of years. I think we should kill it off while it still has some credibility, rather than letting it linger on in decline.

you should take one look at the Mrs Le Havre, Miss Jersey Battle, Miss Sark etc. and there you see classy women, and when you look over at someone like Jodie Marsh, you realise what the word ' celebrity ' means nowadays.
