Jersey Marathon 2006

The Standard Charted Jersey Marathon in association with Headway, Jersey's first marathon in 20 years, was a fantastic success. Garry Payne won the event in 2:44.33 with Michelle Buckle as the first woman home.

Whether you were running the full marathon or part of a relay team we'll probably have you crossing the line.

If you're in one of our photos and we don't have your name and time why not e-mail jersey@bbc.co.uk with the details.

49 year old Garry Payne won the men鈥檚 event, crossing the finish line in 2:44.33 having led the race from the very start.

Blind Kenyan runner Henry Wanyoike was second man home, accompanied by his guide Joseph Kibunja, in 2:52.06, followed by Chris Townsin in third, the first Channel Islander.

The women鈥檚 event was won by Michelle Buckle in 3:03.47, some fifteen minutes ahead of Jersey鈥檚 Glenda Illing who came second in a time of 3:18.25, whilst third place went to popular local runner Sue Le Ruez.

In the relay event French teams from Granville Sports Club took both first and second place, the winners reaching the finish in an impressive 2:26.20. A team representing Victoria College Prep was third.

It's not just the winning that counts...

The atmosphere throughout the day at the start/finish down at the Waterfront was incredible, with many runners commenting how great the crowds had been throughout the 26.2 mile route.

And there鈥檚 no better example of the fantastic community spirit that there was all day than the hero鈥檚 welcome received by the last runner in, Andrew Green.

As director of Headway, one of the main beneficiaries of the marathon, he was determined to finish despite having been unable to train due to injury - he came in just after the 6 hour mark to rapturous applause, accompanied by the sounds of Chariots of Fire.
