In 2006 Tom decided to go travelling for the first time since his capture. He went to Australia to collect plants for Lullingstone's World Garden but felt he needed to return to South America, the place of his capture. Caracus was the last place he saw as he left six years ago and was to be the first place to return to. 鈥淚 was quite literally shaking as we landed down at Caracus airport and I began getting ready to speak Spanish again.鈥 Tom鈥檚 trip took him to the Venezuelan rainforest where he faced his demons. 鈥淚 could smell the smells of Colombia, and if I closed my eyes I could feel Paul Winder behind me closely followed by 鈥榯he men with guns鈥. After climbing a peak in Venezuela, Tom was able to spend some time looking out across a vista towards Colombia for the first time since his release and finally exorcise his ghosts. last updated: 11/11/2009 at 14:59 SEE ALSOYou are in: Kent > Nature > Nature Features > Tom returns to the jungle
