What's the band's history so far?Glyn previously worked in bands including The Urbane Gorillas and Harvey’s Wall of Sound in the 90s, releasing a series of independent products with co-writer Andy Scott on the ‘Inane Records’ label. After a long break, he returned to writing, recording and performance in 2004, gaining airplay on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1’s John Peel show with some production work for The Container Drivers. Debut solo album Toys From Balsa (2005) was released,Ìý featured what has since become a trademark eclectic mix of songs with subjects ranging from communist feast, to plastic bags, cannibalism, abusive relationships, Laurel & Hardy and evenÌý John & Yoko in bed. It gained attention from underground media and some great reviews. 2007 brought the follow-up album ‘Songs from The Old Illawalla’,Ìý featuring guitar contributions from Phil Senior. Phil has since become a key member of Glyn’s live bandÌý ‘The Many Splendid Things’ . The line-up has recently been completed by the addition of John Gardner (bass) and Owen Fawkes (drums). The band are currently gigging and building their audience throughout the North Style and influences?Reviewers tend to reference people like David Bowie, Robyn Hitchcock (Soft Boys), Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy), Nick Cave and Scott Walker. The sound is unashamedly retro. Best moment so far?Either playing Fleetwood’s Marine Hall, or getting our first published supportive album review. Worst/most embarrassing moment so far?Either playing to an audience consisting of two sound engineers and one punter, or our first highly critical album review!
