Light as hell (English/German)

I remember an American colleague giving a talk at the university of Göttingen. After showing some slides he wanted to turn on the light again, but hesitated to press the button labelled hell. I don't know what he expected to happen and there was no need to worry anyway because in German it is just the adjective 'light'.

People from Berlin don't call doughnuts Berliner we say Pfannkuchen. So I'm a Berliner means I am from Berlin and not I'm a doughnut. Berliner is not a doughnut.
