The long and winding word

When I was learning German back in Bulgaria we used a phrase book from the GDR from which I learned a fantastically long word: Verbesserungsvorschlagsversammlung, lit. meeting for suggestions for improvement. There was even a song that went Mach mal einen Verbesserungsvorschlag, make a suggestion for improvement sometime. Other real tongue twisters in German are Haftpflichtversicherung, personal liability insurance, Herzinfarktvorsorgeuntersuchung, preventive medical check up for heart attacks andµþ±ð³Ùä³Ü²ú³Ü²Ô²µ²õ³¾¾±³Ù³Ù±ð±ô±¹±ð°ù²õ³¦³ó°ù±ð¾±²ú³Ü²Ô²µ²õ±¹±ð°ù´Ç°ù»å²Ô³Ü²Ô²µ, guideline for the prescription of narcotics.

While learning German at school as a foreign language, once I came across a long word in my Deutsch Russisch Wörterbuch, and before reading some wonderful exmples on this page I believed it was the longest word in German: ³§³¦³ó·É²¹²Ô²µ±ð°ù²õ³¦³ó²¹´Ú³Ù±¹±ð°ù³óü³Ù³Ü²Ô²µ²õ³¾¾±³Ù³Ù±ð±ô -- contraceptive.

I just love saying °²¹¾±²õ±ð°ù-°Â¾±±ô³ó±ð±ô³¾-³Ò±ð»å䳦³ó³Ù²Ô¾±²õ°ì¾±°ù³¦³ó±ð. With it being such a landmark in Berlin you can get to say it a lot.

Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung. It's been a while, but I learned this word in one of my German classes many years ago, which was taught by a woman from Germany. I was told it meant speed limit. Isn't that just the BEST?! Try saying it fast 10 times! Love the way they put those words together.

I love crazy words. This came out of an old grammar book: Dampfschifffahrtgesellschaftsdirektorsstellvertretersgemahlin. Translation: Steam navigation company's manager's assistant's wife.

In Germany exists a title or an award for almost everything. Shopkeepers even get an award when they keep their shop clean.

Arzneimittelausgabenbegrenzungsgesetz! What a little belter! My lecturer tells us it was Unwort des Jahres, un-word of the year. More surprising really is that such a title exists!

I think ±ô±ð²ú±ð²Ô²õ³¾Ã¼»å±ð really is a nice direct word. But unlike stated here before it means "tired of life" or "live-weary". Can get used to adress sombody acting dangerously (Bist Du lebesmüde?!) which is quite common, or someone is ±ô±ð²ú±ð²Ô²õ³¾Ã¼»å±ð i.e. who has a real intention of commiting suicide. Then there is the strange German word Weltschmerz:, lit. world pain.

I really like German but I can't believe that those words are that long.
