France or Lancashire? (Lanky)

Years ago, a friend of mine from Accrington Lancashire was on holiday on Guernsey. Many shops in Guernsey are bilingual in French and English. My friend was asking the shopkeeper "Have you any biscuits?", but in Lancashire Dialect it was pronounced "Es te ony biscuits?". The lady shopkeeper assumed he was French and responded in French!
