All creatures great and small

One of my favourite words in Turkish is ²õü³¾Ã¼°ì±ôü²úö³¦±ð°ì. ³§Ã¼³¾Ã¼°ì is the Turkish word for snot, ²õü³¾Ã¼°ì±ôü is snotty and ²úö³¦±ð°ì is bug. Snotty bug! Would you be surprised to learn that ²õü³¾Ã¼°ì±ôü²úö³¦±ð°ì is the Turkish for slug? Another Turkish word actually caused me to change my name! My parents called me Phillipa Kate, so for most of my life I have been known as Phill. Then I fell in love with Turkey, started to learn Turkish and later met and married a Turkish man. When Turkish people asked my name they would giggle at my reply. I soon learnt that fil is the Turkish word for elephant! So I had to choose, either go on a diet or start using my middle name!
