Sparring was the only time bare knuckle boxers wore gloves

Spring by name and spring by nature

It was Muhammad Ali that said:

"They don't look at fighters to have brains. They don't look at fighters to be businessmen, or humans, or intelligent. Fighters are just brutes. You have to be a little crazy to be a fighter".

But it was Tom "Light Tapper" Spring, born, Thomas Winter in 1795, from Fownhope in Herefordshire that dispelled the myth that all boxers ate nuts and bolts for breakfast, and he was certainly not crazy.

Spring was not just a bare knuckle fighter; he was the All England Bare Knuckle prize fighting Champion. More...
