The phrase pole dancing conjures up images of seedy strip clubs and women dancing for money. It certainly doesn't rank as a dance to rival ballroom, salsa or ballet. But a Leicestershire mother is aiming to give pole dancing some respectability by opening her own teaching studio. Genevieve Moody, aged 29, has set up the facility in Leicester city centre. The mum-of-one, from the Blaby area, says her classes are just as disciplined as other types of dancing sessions. She said: "What I teach is very far removed from what's in strip clubs. "Tango started in the brothels of Argentina and ice dancing involves skimpy costumes and lots of physical contact - so there is no reason why pole dancing cannot become acceptable. "In fact it's very exciting to be at the forefront of a revolution in this women's art form". The Strictly Pole Dancing Studio will open on 14 June. Beginners' classes are held on Wednesdays from 20:15-21:15. |
