Razmataz open festival weekend

This year's Summer Sundae festival was opened by Razmataz from Leicester after thousands took part in a vote organised by 大象传媒's The Beat.

Leicester band Razmataz opened the main stage at the Summer Sundae Weekender 2009 after winning a 大象传媒 competition.

Thousands of East Midlands music fans voted from a shortlist of local bands selected by The Beat.

The four-piece group followed a tradition of Leicester bands opening the festival at De Montfort Hall.

"For an opening band I don't think it could have gone much better."

After finishing their set the band said they were very happy with how it had gone, and it seems the fans agreed:

"For an opening band I don't think it could have gone much better."

Razmataz are now set on appearing at bigger festivals as part of 大象传媒 Introducing.

Before: Razmataz hear the good news

Lead singer Nathan said the band were busy rehearsing for the biggest gig of their lives, so far.

Razmataz were formed after Nathan and guitarist Chris met at an arts scheme organised by the city and county councils called Rock School.

The aim of the project was for local musicians to form new bands, write a song and perform it by the end of the day.

The two "completely gelled" and Chris asked Nathan to join his current band Razmataz.

Since then the band have lost and gained a bassist, and now play regularly on the Leicestershire music circuit, including a set at this year's Glastonbudget.

The band opened the Summer Sundae Festival on Friday 14 August, setting the tone of the three day long event.

Leicester group Fazed won the prize slot in 2007, and The Heroes success last year has been followed up with a 大象传媒 Introducing appearance at Glastonbury this summer.
