Billy Liar

To open their packed Spring-Summer season with the first of five ‘Made in Liverpool’ productions, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres present Billy Liar, Keith Waterhouse’s and Willis Hall’s sharply witty and touching comedy.Ìý

Billy Fisher, a young man with a humdrum life, spends most of his time daydreaming about a land where he is hero.Ìý He may look like a duffel-coated undertaker’s clerk, but in his mind he’s an award-winning script writer; the leader of his own country; or the world’s greatest band leader.Ìý And of course, he’s the Casanova to end them all.Ìý A few reckless acts cause Billy to lie to avoid the consequences, but as his lies get bigger his webs of deception are in danger of unravelling.Ìý Billy needs to think fast to prevent further trouble.Ìý As London beckons, maybe it’s time to make his fantasies a reality?Ìý

Phil Willmott returns to direct this exciting new production at the Liverpool Playhouse from Friday 3rd to Saturday 25th February 2006. Cast includes Michael Imerson (Billy Fisher), David Hounslow (Geoffrey Fisher) and Kerry Peers (Alice Fisher).

Willmott brings his inventive touch back to Liverpool, having had success here directing Master Harold…and the Boys (2003) and Around the World in Eighty Days (2002) at the Playhouse.Ìý

The exciting creative team of designer Christopher Woods, lighting designer Hansjorg Schmidt and sound designer Jenny Tallon-Cahill have conceived an enthralling and original vision for a production which is sure to delight audiences and make Billy Liar a timeless embodiment of the dreamer in every one of us.
