Look Up Liverpool

Look Up Liverpool is a photographic exploration of Liverpool鈥檚 architecture, history and heritage. It鈥檚 aim is to challenge stereotypical images of Liverpool and young people, producing a higher vision of art, culture, heritage and history.

Look Up Liverpool is a project led by George and Gosia McKane of Yellow House, an organisation that works with young people and community groups. They envisioned the Look Up Liverpool project based on the idea that most people miss the interesting features of buildings because they only view them from eye level. George and Gosia suggest that we should look higher up to see the bigger picture.

鈥淚t is important that on Liverpool鈥檚 800th anniversary that we celebrate our past and look to the future鈥 say George and Gosia.

Yellow House asked a group of young people who were beginners in the world of photography, heritage and architecture to take the photographs. The goal here was to broaden their appreciation of the built environment and challenge the perception of what interests young people and what they are capable of. The results are now on display at St George's Hall Visitors Centre.

Listen to an interview with photographers PJ, Steph and Peter:

When was the last time you looked up at the ships, lions, angels, devil and moons of Liverpool鈥檚 architecture? This exhibition presents you with images of Liverpool's historic past through the eyes of young people.

Look Up Liverpool is at St. George鈥檚 Hall Vistors Centre (3rd Floor) until October 24, 2007.
