Start of the 7th annual Buddy Walk

Down Syndrome Walk

Over 400 people walked through Liscard Town Centre in Wallasey to support Sundowns the charity which supports individuals with Down Syndrome, their parents and carers.

Not even the rain could dampen the spirits of the 400 people who turned up at Central Park in Wallasey for this year's annual Buddy Walk.听This was the starting point for a mile-long walk held every year to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and the needs of those who are affected by it.

Wirral Mayor Phil Gilchrist helped听 9 year old Olivia Asterley cut the yellow ribbon to officially open the event.听Shoppers in a busy Liscard town centre looked on as the marchers made their to New Brighton Cricket Club for a big party. The crowds were entertained by a samba band and the Bethany Starlight Majorettes. There was also an opportunity for the children to enter a Christmas card design competition.听There was glitter everywhere!

Sundowns secretary Lisa said "Although the Buddy Walk is not a fundraising event, the charity still received donations during the day. Ray Prentice, parent member, was sponsored by his Merseyrail workmates and donated 拢50.00 on the day.

The Bethany Starlight Majorettes, who chose SUNDOWNS as their charity of the year, not only entertained the walkers on the day but also donated 拢55.20 towards the event.听Although SUNDOWNS provided refreshments for the Buddy Walk free of charge people still offered donations towards the cost and around 拢40.00 was collected.
