Stop
Shopping is an afternoon of screenings, discussion, and performance
featuring artists and anti-shoppers who question and interrupt the
usual patterns of consumerism.
The
event features work by artists who perform in contested public space,
even in the heart of corporate chain stores.

Reverend
Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping |
Reverend
Billy (of the Church of Stop Shopping) has gained an international
following by leading his congregation and a gospel choir into Starbucks
for an impromptu sermon on the evils of the transnational bean and
hormone-injected milk.
Whirl-Mart聮s
silent trolley processions mesmerize shoppers struggling with their
own overloaded shopping trolleys.
My
Dad聮s Strip Club is an absurdist look at subliminal messages
spelled out in supermarket receipts. The projects examine the rituals
of consumerism, and elevate the act of 聯just browsing聰
to the point of ecstatic fervour.

The
Vacuum Cleaner and co stage their absurdist, peaceful protests by
scrubbing the filth from icons and sites of corporate greed and
images of self-hate armed only with a pair of marigold gloves and
feather duster.
Following
the screening, the stop shoppers will take their act to the streets,
staging interventions and performances in various locations around
Liverpool.

Lynn; also participating are Conglomco (USA), The Vacuum Cleaner
(UK), Richard Dedomenici (UK), Jon Burgerman (UK) & How and
