the 1920s, the Headmistress of the Girls was Miss A.E.

"The
caretaker was Mr Street and we were more afraid
of him than the teachers. If by any chance you
were late, you had to ring the bell as the gate
was closed prompt 9am. The caretaker then proceeded
to tell you off and that was before you saw the
headmistress."

"There
was about 10 of us who stayed for dinner which
had to be eaten in the hall sitting at a desk.
The caretaker would provide hot water if we had
brought oxo, cocoa or such.
If you were lucky and had a penny you could get
a bottle of lemonade, though mostly it was raspberry
or cream soda."
