What
happens when four out of condition middle-managers are sent off
on a team building exercise in the Lake District?
With
their rucksacks packed and an assortment of cagoules, camouflage
and waxed jackets, Neville, Angus, Gordon and Roy set out to brave
the elements and be back at base camp by dark.
Bound
in by fog, menaced by wildlife and cut off from the world, the exercise
turns into a comedy of recrimination, French crickets and sausages.
What should have been a bonding process turns into a muddy, bloody
fight for survival.
Wirral
born playwright Tim Firth, whose work for television includes All
Quiet On The Preston Front and Once Upon A Time In The North, also
wrote the musical Our House with music and lyrics by Madness, which
is currently enjoying success in London's West End.
The
cast for Neville's Island will be familiar to many, with Peter-Hugo
Daly as Roy (from TV's Longitute and Martin Chuzzlewit), Simon O'Brien
(Damon in Brookside) as Neville, Steven Pinder (Max Farnham in Brookside)
as Angus and Andrew Schofield (stage appearances include Sweeney
Todd, Blood Brotheres, Stags and Hens) as Gordon.
Neville's
Island is at the Playhouse Theatre between 5th and 28th June 2003
at 7.30pm. No Monday performances, with matinees at 2pm, on Saturday
14th, 21st and 28th June.
