One of
Radio 4's comedy stars, Linda Smith's show at the Everyman delighted
the crowd. A largely middle-aged audience suggested that radio listeners
are her biggest fans, but television appearances on programmes such
as Have I Got News For You have made her high-pitched East London
accent recognisable to many.
Her
stand-up show is sharp and topical; Tony Blair came in for a pasting
and references to the recent Capital of Culture outcome went down
very well with the Liverpool audience. She gets plenty in, and the
content varies from television chefs (anyone who is as happy as
Ainsley Harriott clearly hasn't understood the world!), to her childhood
in a boring part of East London.
The
set flows easily from start to finish. Linda's awareness of the
makeup of her audience obviously affects her routine, but she caters
for all, with accessible and witty material.
