We
all remember the immortal film musical starring Cliff Richard that
charted the tale of a bunch of happy-go-lucky pals taking a holiday
through Europe on a red London bus.
Now
the stage-show version is coming to the Liverpool Empire. The story
tells how pop starlet Bobby (Suzanne Shaw of Hear'Say fame), dressed
as a boy, steals aboard the touring bus to escape her showbiz lifestyle.
Chased by her domineering mother (Aimi MacDonald) and her agent
Jerry (Christopher Biggins), she hitches a ride with the holidaymakers
and soon falls in love with Bachelor Boy, Don (Darren Day).
Packed
full of rock n' roll hits and dance routines, this comedy favourite
features timeless songs like 'Summer Holiday' 'Bachelor Boy' 'Livin'
Doll' and 'The Young Ones.'

It
wasn't ideal weather in Liverpool for a summer holiday when star
Darren Day turned up for the press call. Due to a spot of rain,
our Daz wouldn't hop over the road to board the open-top double
decker hired for the event. We imagined, the 'I'm a Celebrity' jungle
survivor would have been a bit less scared of getting his hair wet!
Summer
Holiday is directed by Michael Gyngell, designed by Paul Farnsworth
and has choreography by Tony Award winning Gillina Gregory.
This
stellar show will be performed for one week only, so get down to
the Liverpool Empire between Monday 18th-Saturday 23rd August.
