NME recently described Boy Kill Boy as "like The Smiths splitting half a disco biscuit with Hard-Fi in the Hacienda gents".听 This description, sent on a press release for their first major single release, made us scrunch our faces up and roll our eyes.听Quite simply, we didn't expect this to be good.听听 "The band's songs are filled with wilful over-the-top drama and passion... it all adds up to a winning combination..." | Talia Kraines |
How wrong we were. From a first listen to the single Back Again, we were hooked.听 For starters, this sounded nothing like Hard-Fi and The Smiths comparison was pretty hard to find as well.听Instead this was a mash of Muse, Placebo, Maximo Park and even a tiny smattering of Suede, forced together in a mad rush, bubbling to explosive heights. dancefloor-filling potential Chris Peck (vocals, guitar), Peter Carr (keyboards), Kevin Chase (bass) and Shaz (drums) hail from East London and have been touted as one of 2006's future successes.听 So it was with some glee that we received word of the band performing a secret(ish) gig at the tiny Bar Academy in Islington. Strutting on stage in smart suits and classic indie-boy long hair, the four-piece immediately blasted off into THAT single Back Again, proving its instant indie dancefloor-filling potential over the coming months.听 Previous minor releases on the Fierce Panda label, Civil Sin and the infectious Suzie captivated the heaving crowd and cried out for a major re-release.听听 captivating

BKB's songs are filled with wilful over-the-top drama and passion.听Combine this with dangerously catchy riffs and Chris Peck's distinctive vocal tone, and you've got a winning combination. No matter how much of a music fan you may be, you've probably been to one of those gigs where you only know one song and the rest of the time is spent looking forward to hearing the words "this is the last one we're gonna do." With Boy Kill Boy, this simply didn't happen. Every song in their repertoire was captivating. Now with Radio 1, XFM and the NME behind them, the band are surely set for bigger things.听 They play King's College, London on 27 February with the equally fantastic Apartment.听听 Go - you'll never see them in a venue this small again.
