The redeveloped BFI Southbank complex - on the site of the former Museum of the Moving Image - has opened to the public. It represents a major milestone in the BFI's attempts to engage with a broader film-going and film-using community. In addition to the three existing cinemas, the newly refurbished venue includes a Mediatheque where, for the first time, visitors can sit and watch hundreds of hours of film and television from the BFI archive for free. The 'digital jukebox' contains clips from the last 100 years, including feature length films such as Brief Encounter and The 39 Steps, an episode of Coronation Street, Jude Law's film debut and a dead elephant being cremated. A gallery space will showcase the work of leading UK and international filmmakers and will launch with Tiny, Funny, Big and Sad, a debut exhibition by New York pioneers Jennifer and Kevin McCoy. The film Tick Tock Lullaby is one of a broad range of features in the 21st London Lesbian and Gay Film festival, part of the many events, talks and presentations planned throughout the year. The Mediatheque is located on London's South Bank.听 Admission is free. Open to the public from 11am until 11pm Tuesday through Sunday.last updated: 04/06/2008 at 18:36 You are in: London > Places > London Places > 拢6m film venue is unveiled
