The week of peace is now London wide, and is being marked by most boroughs. In past years Haringey's Peace Alliance has hosted events that included peace walks, peace concerts and prayer walks around crime hotspots. The event proved so popular that it's now a borough wide event that runs until Sunday 21st September. The HighlightWednesday 17th September 2008, has been designated Unity Day.听 On Unity Day a human chain will formed between Wood Green Tube and Turnpike Lane. Also on that day many organisations have been invited to showcase their work and services in Wood Green Shopping City forecourt. Monday 15th September 2008Watch & Discuss: Kids, Knives and Broken Lives, 7pm 鈥 9pm, Venue: Hornsey Library Gallery, Haringey Park, N8 9JA.听 The documentary investigates why so many young people are armed with guns and knives. The viewing will be followed by discussion. Building Community Cohesion through Religious Understanding: 4pm 鈥 7pm, Venue: Marcus Garvey Library, Tottenham Green Centre, 1 Philip Lane, N15.听 Religious leaders from the Jewish, Muslim and Christian religions will be available to answer questions about their faiths. Tuesday 16thPeace Breakfast 鈥 8am, Venue: Freedom鈥檚 Ark, Bruce Grove - The Peace Alliance are hosting an invitation only peace breakfast to discuss current issues and launch the new version of 鈥渨hat鈥檚 the point?鈥. 鈥淲hat鈥檚 the point?鈥 is an innovative graphic novel aimed at showing young people the consequences of carrying a knife. Peace Fair for Secondary School Children: 9.30am - 3.30pm, Venue: Teen Library, Wood Green Central Library, High Road, N22 6XD.听 Local Secondary Schools have been invited to bring students to attend the following sessions; an introduction to peace week, showing of the Police Operation Blunt II DVD, a 鈥榳hat peace means?鈥 activity and a peace fair where local organisations will showcase their services. Wednesday 17thUnity Day Event: 12 noon 鈥 6pm, Venue: The Mall, Wood Green Shopping City.听 Stalls and presentations from various groups from Haringey鈥檚 voluntary, community and find out about volunteering opportunities. I Wanna Hold Your Hand:听 4.30pm, Venue: Wood Green High Road between Wood Green Tube and Turnpike Lane Tube stations. Haringey residents, shoppers, police, council workers, community organisations and retailers are invited to form a human hand-holding chain linking Wood Green Underground Station with Turnpike Lane. Wear a white shirt! St. Ann鈥檚 Hospital 鈥淒reams鈥 Art Exhibition:: Venue: St Ann鈥檚 Hospital.听 The Occupational Therapy (OT) Department in collaboration with the Mental Health Community Development Workers in Haringey are organising an art competition and exhibition of service users鈥 work, related to the concept of 鈥楧reams鈥. Thursday 18thDrive domestic violence out of Haringey!: Timetable: 9:30am DV Bus leaves River Park House, 10am - 11:30am Bus parked at post office, Crouch End, 12:30pm 鈥 2pm Bus parked at Wood Green Library, 2.30pm 鈥 4pm Bus parked at CONEL (College of North East London). Performances from young people from across Haringey. Saturday 20thWeek of Peace Street Theatre: 1pm 鈥 6pm, Venue: Lymington Avenue, N22. Performances from young people from across Haringey. Crouch End Area Assembly: 2pm 鈥 5pm, Venue: Priory Park, Middle Lane, N8. Share your ideas and hear what is being done in the neighbourhood. United Colours of Britain: 7pm 鈥 11pm, Venue: Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Town Hall Approach Road, Tottenham Green, N15 4RX. Talent show and beauty pageant for young people to encourage integration and promote talent. Tickets can be bought through the Bernie Grant centre website or 07817 736 144. Sunday 21stWalk of Peace/Picnic: 2pm , Venue: start at Wood Green Civic Centre, High Road, N22 then walk to Ducketts Common.听 A walk of peace with representatives from different churches within Haringey . Please bring a picnic to share with someone else! Service: 6pm, Venue: Dominion Centre, 9 The Broadway, Wood Green High Road, N22 6DS . Christians in Haringey of various denominations, will be holding a Haringey Service for Peace.
