Following the judges’ visit to the borough in June the area managed to secure a number of awards including: A Silver Gilt Award and overall winner of the Large City category 2nd in the Public Parks and Open Spaces category for Coombe Wood 2nd in the Floral Display category praise worthyCouncillor Steve Hollands, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and proves what a vibrant and colourful place Croydon is”. “These awards are a fitting tribute to all the hard work and effort put in by the whole community to make the borough bloom.”
Coombe Wood was described as ‘exemplary’ and Haling Grove, Chaldon Gardens and Happy Valley were picked our for special mention. Also commented on was the council's initiative and promotion materials, and the borough was told to “keep up the good work”. It was marked on a number of areas including floral displays, landscaping, community, business and school involvement and on nature conservation and protecting the environment.
