I
decided to go along, ticketless and watch from outside of the stadium
- I was disappointed that there was no screen there to view the events
inside, but at the end, seeing those fireworks from a non-tv point
of view made the night. Also, another disturbing factor, With Man
U and Man C having bigger stadiums and less of the hassle getting
out - I'd have thought that getting 40,000 people out of Eastlands
would've been easier and less fraught than it was (I was on the bus
that got stuck at the front near Asda - the one where the passengers
cheered the driver after all the other buses had gone and we were
the last to move off!)

WOW!
who'd have thought our little city could bring a show like that together,
i was one that did not think it possible, I EAT MY WORDS, the spirit
of manchester was totaly captured, The friendly city. sad about Beckham
being used tho, for a city rebuilding itself after being bombed in
1996 i think we beat all the big names in the world, may we continue
to build out city.

The
opening ceremony was amzing and just goes to prove that we really
can carry something like that off in this country. It was totally
inclusive, had something for every agegroup and was a magnificent
spectacle. I was expecting to cringe (remember the Euro 96 opening
at Wembly? No - thought not!) but it made me proud. Congrats to all
involved.

I
was part of the show last night as a dancer in the 'spirit' of Manchester
section. I am shocked to read how people have reacted to this part
of the show- it was SUPPOSED to be outrageous and the costumes were
SUPPOSED to be ridiculous. The whole section was themed on ordinary
people- hence the ordinary objects on the costumes- sweets, toys,
rubber gloves etc. It has taken months to rehearse and whoever said
it was badly choreographed clearly doesn't know a great deal about
dance. I have been dancing 23 years and am a qualified dance teacher
and I think that Karen Bruce and her excellent team made a show that
puts manchester on the map. I enjoyed it and will remember it forever.

I'm
yet to find an Australian who has anything nice to say about the ceremony.
The pathetic, inferiority fuelled back-biting which is usually shown
towards the mother country continues. Get over it and admit it was
a great ceremony.

Well
I am absolutely flaberghasted at the comments here: What a bunch of
miserable people. I for one thought the opening ceremony was fantastic.
I notice that many of the poor comments are from people in other countries
and can't help thinking that there's a touch of jealousy there. Well
Done Manchester - World Class opening, terrific organisation - no
glitches - AND - a point that many are missing, involvement of hundreds
of volunteers in the opening ceremony - ordinary people, surely thats
EXACTLY what the games is about.

I
am unable to comment on the opening ceremony because it was not shown
on T.V.here.Even 大象传媒.America chose to ignore it.It would have been
a change to the rubbish that they always screen on their channel.

I
thought it was a good ceremony, and i noticed that the only ones to
make bad comments about it are aussies, jealousy gets you no were,
now stop your moaning, manchester got the games and it is a success.
Everyone else has made nice comments about manchester and the games,
but australia just want to moan and whinge about it. If you don't
like it turn the t.v off. no one made you watch it. But all i have
to say is well done manchester, nice to see someone outside london
to get some fame!

I
was at the World Cup this summer and was apprehensive about the commonwealth
games. But I must say I think the opening ceremony was brilliant and
MODERN. It goes to prove that Manchester is THE party city!

I
have to say a big well done to everyone who took part last night,
I think you all did brilliantly. It was just such a shame that the
ceremony was crap. This was a spectacular opportunity to demonstrate
Manchester's past, present and future, and to show the different types
of cultures and traditions that made the city. Instead we got people
banging water bottles and Asda trollies, S Club 7 (the Manc connection
there, anyone?), a few black cabs (which aren't a Manc tradition anyway)
and blatant rip-offs of Sydney's Olympic ceremonies. Even the bit
at the end about the "spirit of Manchester" was poorly choreographed.
A great opportunity missed.

What
a tawdry load of rubbish; a badly dressed, poorly choreographed, meaningless
mess. There was not one second of class or taste in the whole show,
except the baton arrival. Compared to the beauty and spectacle of
the Kuala Lumpar and Sydney shows, Manchester should be ashamed.

Hey
there guys! Actually taking part in the opening ceremony. I have to
say it was an amazing experience! I was one of the mirror kids. It
felt so phenomenal! It was a breath taking event.Which everyone will
remember. It feels amazing performing live infront of thousands of
people. It is somehing that I'll always remember.

It
was naff and much of it more appropriate to a pop concert. Why can't
we get away from football for once.

I
thought that overall it was pretty good! I really liked the music
although the dance sequence could have been more "realistic". I really
liked how the baton came down on that hot air ballon thing. That was
cool. I think the Queen should have been more involved, especially
when the little girl handed her the baton. Anyway, good luck to all
the athletes! GO CANADA GO

Excellent
organisation, makes one proud as a Mancunian and I hope it leads to
the continued renaissance of the city. Disappointed with the announcer
and the apparent diffidence of the royal family.

The
organisation of the Park and Ride was brilliant. All the volunteers
were helpful and cheerful, the show was magnificent, but why Beckham?
and I think the Queen needs a visit from the "smile" fairy. Why so
many empty seats, was the pricing structure wrong?

I
thought the show was spectacular. However, Itotally agree with Martin
from Manchester - it would have been nice for the Queen to have been
closer to Kirsty eg stroke her cheek. the Queen seemed too distance
and far from friendly. You could really see the difference in Princess
Diana and the Queen there!

What a load
of Rubbish. It is supposed to a sporting event - not a second rate,
over noisey, unimaginitive load of claptrap.

Absolutely
fantastic, They say in Manchester it never rains but it pours. Well
the organizers poured a lot of effort into that spectacular show last
night. Congratulations, looking forward to seeing what surprises there
will be in the closing ceremony.
