Despite his girlfriend's protests, Ian still has his eye on plenty more records to fuel his self confessed addiction. "The collection takes up an entire room. Somehow manage to fit them all in.

"It's more of an addiction than a hobby and it's something that started when I was thirteen or fourteen. I put it down to listening to my sister's Beatles' records and seeing a South Bank programme about the Velvet Underground." Ian says that he can't see a time when he stops collecting records, despite the rising cost of buying them. So what is Ian's prize possession? "The LP in my collection which took me a long long time to find is the first album by Thin Lizzy - which is almost impossible to find. "It's not worth loads of money, probably not much more than fifty pounds. It's just a fabulous LP and something I play over and over again." Ian main passion is for the old 45 singles, but his girlfriend is far more interested in other things. "My girlfriend has suggested that I sell them all and buy a cottage in the South of France, but I'd be miserable until my dying days." |
