With folk parentage and heritage which runs as deep has his, it鈥檚 fair to say that expectations of Teddy Thompson鈥檚 talent run high. And as the first notes of Shine So Bright struck through the sleepy Sunday atmosphere, it was clear to see that those expectations are entirely justified. Exceptional and captivating in equal measures, his achingly clear vocal was all that was needed to lull the crowd into a restful state of awe. After successfully negotiating a few technical glitches along the way, Thompson and the band swung from comfortable indie-rock to earthy roots with the greatest of ease. Tackling everything from musical hall favourites to country drawl, it鈥檚 clear that Thompson鈥檚 musical ability finds its strength in more than just good genes. From the aching roll of Turning The Gun On Myself to the soothing harmonies of Everybody Move It, it鈥檚 easy to see that Thompson is at his best when he leaves behind the singer-songwriter rock and allows the darker lilt of his vocals to come through to the forefront. In his own words, the future for Teddy Thompson is 鈥渙nwards and upwards鈥, a place he will certainly make it to if he concentrates on this newfound country swagger and steers away from the middle of the road.
