"Short Sharp Shock is about laziness. The laziness of loving and the laziness of living.Ìý Because time is not our element. We live is a sort of gloopy forgetfulness, a milky porridge. Short Sharp Shock is about the need to try." It's been a while since your last release, Surrender. Has it been a frustrating time waiting for Short Sharp Shock to come out?
 | Joe in the Short Sharp Shock video |
"Yes, a bit, though since Surrender came out, we've been rewriting half the album and altering our sound. We weren't happy with the way we were sounding, so we took time to change it. We grew bored with the rigidly synthetic aspects of our music. So we got a drummer and Joe Cross began to play bass guitar. It has been worth it." What can we expect from the album? "A brief history of four young people who've spent the last two years in a derelict cotton mill in Ancoats. Brilliant songs. I think I believe that. No, no, I definitely do. Expect moving dancing, moving thinking and moving losing." Is this EP and album the start of something big for Performance? "It's good to kill time flamboyantly, run it through with a ludicrously decorated blade." | Joe Stretch on the best ways to deal with boredom |
"Yes. No. We're gonna be ** huge… we're gonna sink and be unappreciated. Personally, I intend to endure, to defy expectation, to entertain with song." Your website has a section with art and poetry in it. Do you see yourselves as more than just a band? "Perhaps, a factory maybe. No, that sounds terrible. We're just easily bored so like to try other things. Writing novels, doing art, film, poetry. I don't know. It's good to kill time flamboyantly, run it through with a ludicrously decorated blade." Is there still Too Much Information out there?
 | Performance |
"The idea of Too Much Information is a double sided one. The more I feel saturated in crap, the more I feel knowledge drift pass me, unchecked. "There are times, when I'm babbling in situations such as this one, that I feel like a hypocrite. But we only want better music. We only want better thinking, better furniture, buildings and clothes. We only want really good life. Forgive us."
