"I want to stand up and say I鈥檓 proud to be English. And it seems that that right鈥檚 been taken away from me for some reason." | Damon on the ideas behind Born In The UK |
There鈥檚 an obvious nod in the title to Damon鈥檚 hero, Bruce Springsteen, and the song is four minutes of solid rock and roll, which the woolly hatted one produced in an attempt to "capture something about being British or English. I didn鈥檛 want it to be just a list of events, it had to encompass things that captured a version of events in my life. "The fact that the Silver Jubilee meant more to me than the Sex Pistols cause鈥 I was only seven years old, it鈥檚 not a diss on them. It鈥檚 just a fact of my ignorance. I want to stand up and say I鈥檓 proud to be English. And it seems that that right鈥檚 been taken away from me for some reason."
