Sounds of Celebration sees ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny present an afternoon of music and conversation featuring key players from Manchester’s vibrant classical music scene, including a chat with the Hallé’s Chief Conductor Mark Elder, who'll be hot-footing it back to the venue after conducting at the Last Night of the Proms the previous evening! The programme opens with the Hallé Youth Orchestra and Choir conducted by James Burton, who’ll perform Serenade to Music by Vaughan Williams. They’re followed by Martin Roscoe’s interpretation of Wagner’s arrangement of Liszt’s Liebestod and Manchester Camerata performing Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate with help from soprano Gillian Keith.

Moving on, organist Wayne Marshall will provide music by Mulet and Vierne, before the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Philharmonic’s leader, Yuri Torchinsky, plays the Adagio from Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 1. The grand finale will be a performance by the Hallé of concert favourite Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, with Rory McDonald on conductor duties. If you haven’t got the funds for the concert, the Bridgewater will be opening its doors for free earlier in the day for a morning of free music, workshops and tours. |
