Salford’s sound

You’d have to be blind not to have noticed the explosion of new music that’s hit Manchester recently and it’s thanks in part to a plethora of great club nights. The only problem seems to be which one to spend your hard-earned cash on?

Sounds From The Other City III

  • SFTOC takes place at various venues along Chapel Street in Salford
  • It is on from 3pm until late on Sunday 6 May
  • Tickets are £9
  • For a full line-up, check out the SFTOC site

Thanks to Sounds From The Other City, help is at hand. Back for its third year, the Salford-based one-day riot of cutting edge new music is even bigger than before, with seven of the finest promoters in the two cities putting on great bands from here, there and everywhere.

There’s so many to choose from, it’s hard to know which to pick. Want new dance and electro clash? Get yourself in at Contort Yourself. Fancy a laidback folk vibe? Red Deer Club is the place for you. Up for some genuine rock and rolling? Well, you get the picture.

Held across eight venues – there’s one especially for ticket exchanging, tarot reading and general snacks – it looks set to be another great year. And let’s face it – nine quid for 40 bands is a pretty amazing deal.

Local talent to make sure you’re at the front for includes Working For A Nuclear Free City, The Beep Seals, Orphan Boy, Josephine Oniyama, The Ting Tings and The Maple State, while the wider net brings in the likes of The Gentle Good, Clarky Cat, The BE Be See, Attic Lights, Jennifer Gentle and Solar Fire Trio.

To be honest though, the best approach to SFTOC is a simple one; just wander up and down Chapel Street and follow your ears to whatever pricks them up!

SFTOC venues: The Black Lion, Rovers Return, The Kings Arms, The Salford Arms, Sacred Trinity Church, The Mark Addy, Albert Vaults and United Reformed Church.
