As part of the 大象传媒 Saving Planet Earth series, Shobna Gulati investigates a scheme to return polecats to the wild in Cheshire.
Shobna Gulati, star of Coronation Street and former 大象传媒 Radio Manchester presenter, travelled across the North West to see some of the projects in place to help our endangered wildlife. A young polecat, aged 8-12 weeks Shobna finds out more about a scheme to protect polecats in Cheshire. The polecat is one of our last remaining carnivorous mammals. Closely related to the domestic ferret, it鈥檚 a fierce predator that was once almost trapped into extinction by farmers and gamekeepers. The RSPCA鈥檚 Stapeley Grange Animal Rescue Centre near Nantwich in Cheshire specialises in re-introducing orphaned polecats back into the wild. 听Shobna watched as a polecat was put under general anaesthetic so that RSPCA officer, Rob Scriven, could fit it with a tracking device.
